Rube Goldberg, The World of Hilarious Invention Exhibit showcases Pulitzer Prize winning humorist and inventor Rube Goldberg™’s iconic contraptions, imaginative illustrations and humorous storytelling, celebrating his skills as both an artist and inventor. 

Inspired by Rube’s original illustrations and inventive storytelling, this exhibit contains a collection of new 3D, life-size machines and hands-on, interactive components that connect Rube’s iconic cartoon contraptions to the way things work in the physical world. These experiences provide insight into the legacy of Rube and how classic engineering principles can be reimagined as entry points for deeper exploration of STEAM concepts for 21st century learning.

The Pigeon Comes to *Your City Here*: A Mo Willems Exhibit


The Pigeon Comes to *Your City Here*: A Mo Willems Exhibit, is inspired by the art and characters of beloved children’s book author and illustrator Mo Willems.

Visitors are invited into the imagination, whimsy, and humor of Mo Willems. Many familiar characters will be featured, including best friend duo Elephant and Piggie, faithful companion Knuffle Bunny, and The Pigeon, the wily city bird best known for his antics in Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Activities will give children the opportunity to make art that is inspired by Mo Willems and to learn about the rich social and emotional lives of the author’s characters. The exhibit will also feature prints of illustrations, including works in progress, by Mo Willems. In this exhibit, visitors can:

  • Have a hilarious conversation in the voices of Elephant Gerald and Piggie at a double-sided phone booth

  • Make Elephant and Piggie dance with old-time animation

  • Put on a wearable bus and take a drive around the exhibit

  • Spin the laundromat washing machine and uncover Knuffle Bunny and other surprises

  • Dress up your Naked Mole Rat and send him down the runway for a one-of-a-kind fashion show

  • Launch foam hot dogs at The Pigeon and play the plinko game to give the Duckling a cookie

  • Create art inspired by the work of Mo Willems

Very Eric Carle is a play-and-learn exhibit featuring activities inspired by five of Eric Carle’s classic books: The Very Hungry CaterpillarThe Very Quiet CricketThe Very Lonely FireflyThe Very Clumsy Click Beetle, and The Very Busy Spider. In this exhibit, visitors can: 

  • Become the Very Hungry Caterpillar as you follow his path

  • Weave a web with the Very Busy Spider

  • Find your light with the Very Lonely Firefly

  • Make the Very Clumsy Click Beetle flip and jump

  • Compose a night symphony with the Very Quiet Cricket

  • Create artwork using many of Eric Carle's materials and techniques

  • Enjoy a gallery of prints from Eric Carle's Very Series as well as works in progress

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood: A Grr-ific Exhibit

In this exhibit, you will step into Daniel Tiger's world and join him and his friends as you explore the Neighborhood. Through immersive experiences, visitors will work together to solve problems, use their imaginations to transform their surroundings, and play along with Daniel's singable strategies to learn life's little lessons. In this exhibit, visitors can:

  • Visit the Clock Factory where you can play with different kinds of clocks; work with others to make the clock tick

  • Express yourself using one-of-a-kind musical instruments

  • Write or draw a thank you note to someone who has done something special for you and share it on the Thank You Tree

  • Meet Daniel and all of his friends at the Neighborhood School. Make each friend move and say something special

  • Sort, deliver and receive mail and packages at the Neighborhood Post Office

  • Select a block and place it in the radio to hear Daniel sing a strategy song from the series

XOXO: An Exhibit About Love & Forgiveness

Play, act silly, and consider what makes you sad, mad and happy in XOXO. Visitors will asks questions, listen and learn about themselves and the people around them. This exhibit encourages visitors to take a deep breath and explore these feelings through interactive experiences. Using facial expressions, words, movement and art making, XOXO explores what love and forgiveness mean to you, and to others. Explore how we learn about love and forgiveness through activities that get us to feel and talk about these emotions. In this exhibit, visitors can:

  • Hold hands with someone to illuminate a hidden message about love

  • Write down a loving thought and press it into a token to keep or gift

  • Work together to balance on a bubble seesaw or connect an infinite puzzle

  • Explore facial expressions and build with Face Blocks

  • Draw or write down what makes you angry or sad and crank it through a paper shredder

  • Hug a soft sculpture that responds with a comforting sound

Measurement Rules

Measure height, distance, volume and more in Measurement Rules, the interactive exhibit that introduces visitors to various units of measurement. Master the basics and then begin to compare, classify, and categorize numerous methods of measurement using standard and non-standard tools. These hands-on experiences allow visitors to understand measurement in relation to the world around them. This exhibit will enable visitors to achieve something new, collaborate with others and become confident in the language of measurement. In this exhibit, visitors can:

  • Take a walk on a treadmill that is connected to a large odometer that tracks how many yards visitors walk during the exhibit.

  • Find out how many chickens you weigh.

  • How good is your internal clock? Find out when you count to Five Mississippi. See how close you can get to five actual seconds.

How People Make Things

How People Make Things brings the manufacturing experience to life, taking visitors onto the factory floor through hands-on activities in cutting, molding, deforming and assembly where you create objects to take home. In this exhibit, visitors can:

  • Cut Wax using different sculpting tools and experience 3-dimensional cutting by hand

  • Deform a wire by taking a straight wire into a spring shape by winding it around the metal shaft

  • Pull the lever to fill one of six molds with fluid
