Herve Tullet's Art Explosion; Pittsburgh

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh collaborated with renowned artist and children’s book author Hervé Tullet (Press Here, Mix It Up!, I Am Blop!) to offer Art Explosion: Pittsburgh. Opening at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh in February 2017, this exhibition showcased the work of Tullet alongside artistic creations made by our visitors, producing a visually pleasing world of color. This exhibition promoted an appreciation for the arts, while visitors  explored various techniques used by Tullet in his art practice.

For this exhibition, Tullet worked with Museum staff to curate a special collection of his latest artwork, some never seen before in the US.  To support this new work, the CMP designed a unique custom display and hanging system that would allow the works to float in space and encourage the audience to move through the works.  In addition, CMP worked with Tullet and our visitors to create an original soundtrack featuring recordings of public workshops, Tullet’s voice, and musical selections.  Additional elements of the exhibit included compilation videos featuring interviews with Tullet, footage of workshops, and animations; a workshop kit that helped our staff to create large scale paintings with our visitors for use in the exhibition; a display case with an original signed copy of Press Here, one of Tullet's most successful books that inspired his work with children.  Finally, a biographical gallery that walked visitors through Tullet's career put his current work in context.

Tullet continues to exhibit his work internationally and regularly publishes new and insprieing books for children and art lovers alike.
