Terminal Modernization Project at Pittsburgh International Airport

graphics, signage, information kiosks and even visitor view finders combine to help an international airport carry out a vital renovation.

about

“Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh provided design services to create a series of displays, signage packages and information kiosks to describe the upcoming building renovations and service updates planned for the Pittsburgh International Airport terminals underneath the Terminal Modernization Project (TMP). The project considered the transformational and visionary aspects of the renovation, recognizing the history of the airport, the present successes and the future changes. The messages highlight the innovation, creativity and community spirit of Pittsburgh, and the important role PIA plays in the future growth of the region.

The Children’s Museum’s large-scale wall graphics focus on our region’s best assets: Nature, Technology, Community and Pittsburgh’s proud history. Through quotes and images, these messages are communicated to people passing through the terminal – allowing them to see how rich the region is in those four areas.

To further enhance the murals, we installed four View Finders that add a satisfying physical connection for the user. Turn a custom dial to flip through a series of images presenting additional information about the history of the airport and western Pennsylvania. These fixtures provide users the opportunity to control the pace of the digital slide show and be more engaged in the viewing experience. “
