Two foundations award $169,000 in grants to 15 local artists
Two local foundations have awarded a total of $169,000 in grants to 15 local artists so they can produce new work.
Since 2011, the Heinz Endowments and the Pittsburgh Foundation have invested in professional artists. Since the program began, 133 artists and organizations have received about $2 million. A panel of national and regional artists and scholars chose the recipients from a pool of 123 applicants. Recipients were chosen on the quality of their work, the potential of their proposal to advance their career, foster partnerships with other artists and increase the visibility of local working artists.
Seth Clark will use a $35,000 grant during a four-month residency at Museum Lab, a new space created by the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in the former Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny on the North Side. He will create a site-specific work using found objects.
